WATCH: For the second time in the last two months, there is a string of dumpster fires in Victoria. Luisa Alvarez has more.
Victoria and Saanich police are investigating four dumpster fires all deemed suspicious early Monday morning.
Constable Matt Rutherford of Victoria Police says officers are working with Victoria fire looking into three of those fires within their jurisdiction.
Rutherford says the first incident happened around 2 a.m. in the 600-block of Bay Street, followed two-and-a-half hours later by another fire in the 500-block of Chatham Street.
A third dumpster fire took place in the 400-block of Kingston Street around 5:25 a.m. where a nearby vehicle was slightly damaged due to its location to the fire.
“With the coincidence of them being that close together, it’s definitely cause for concern. It puts resources where they don’t need to be if it was a deliberate thing very serious for us because it does threaten properties and lives,” said Battalion Chief Brian Elvedahl with the Victoria Fire Department.
Then just before 5:50 a.m., a fourth fire took place in the area of Douglas and Alpha Streets, which is being investigated by Saanich Police.
No injuries were reported related to any of the fires, and no buildings were damaged.
Rutherford says if anyone has any information on any of the fires to call police.
Saanich Police Detective Sgt. Damian Kowalewich says investigators take arson and fire investigations “very seriously” and will be communicating with VicPD in their review of the incidents.
