Almost two years after his contract with BC Ferries was terminated, Mark Collins has been announced as the CEO of another ferry company.

Starting on May 1, Collins will assume the CEO position at FRS Clipper in Canada, the ferry company that sails between Victoria and Seattle.

The company says Collins brings “extensive experience and leadership to the organization” including as his previous role as the BC Ferries CEO from 2017 to 2022.

A second CEO is also being appointed to head the U.S. operations. Gordon Dirker is currently the Chief Operating Officer and will be promoted to the U.S. CEO role.

Collins was let go from his role at BC Ferries in July 2022, as the company was dealing with staffing shortages and service interruptions.

Initially, BC Ferries did not provide a reason for ending Collins’ contract, then one month later said the decision was made due to a desire to change to a “people-centred culture” at the company.
