Flower Count: Victoria breaks Colwood's winning streak with "Bloomingest" community title

Victoria was named the “Bloomingest” community and a class at Cordova Bay Elementary School won in the Greater Victoria Flower Count.

Victoria has ended Colwood’s five-year winning streak as the “Bloomingest” community in Greater Victoria.

The winner of the “Bloomingest” community title was announced Friday, two days after the 44th-annual Greater Victoria Flower Count came to an end.

According to Destination Victoria, community members and elementary students counted 44,588,324,077 blossoms over the week-long event.

Victoria was named “Bloomingest” community with 19,948,306,872 blossoms counted. The runner up was Saanich with 14,500,799,300 blossoms counted.

The winning class, which counted the most blossoms, was Lesley Mill’s class at Cordova Bay Elementary School in Saanich. The class counted 13,193,034,926 blossoms. Their prize is a trip from L.A. Limousines to The Butchart Gardens.

“Engagement was strong throughout the region and I would like to thank those that participated in the event. Victoria has an amazing array of flowers, trees and manicured gardens,” said Mayor Lisa Helps said in a statement.

“The blossoms are a signature image of Victoria and our residents are passionate about their gardens. It is no surprise our committed residents were able to submit the highest count.”
