Float plane makes hard landing, flips moments after take-off in Tofino

A float plane made a hard landing just moments after take-off at a marina in Tofino Monday.

Just before noon, the Atleo River Air Service plane with four passengers and a pilot aboard reportedly hit a sandbar and flipped onto its roof after taking off from the Tofino Marina.

Everyone aboard the aircraft suffered only minor injuries and were extracted from the plane, then treated at Tofino General Hospital, according to RCMP.

There’s no word on what caused the crash.

The Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident with assistance from the RCMP.
