The B.C. Conservation Officer Service (COS) says an investigation is underway after anglers on Vancouver Island were caught illegally fishing sockeye salmon.
On Friday, July 21, a joint patrol near Port Alberni saw Fisheries and Oceans Canada and BC RCMP officers check three anglers in a boat on Sproat Lake, reads a COS Facebook post.
None of the anglers had valid licences, according to the COS, which says the trio illegally retained eight sockeye salmon.
Officers seized the salmon, as well as the boat under the Wildlife Act, the COS says in its post. It says an investigation is ongoing.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada has salmon fishing guidelines online here, while the B.C. government has information about fishing licenses on its website.
