More than nine months after recreational marijuana became legal across Canada, the first government-run BC Cannabis Store on Vancouver Island will open next week.

Located in the Discovery Harbour Shopping Centre on the Island Highway in Campbell River, the store will open to the public at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31st.

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch says the location will offer products including dried cannabis flower, oils, capsules and pre-rolls approved by Health Canada.

“We are looking forward to opening a BC Cannabis Store in Campbell River, as we continue our efforts to rollout our network of retail stores and service the province,” said Kevin Satterfield, Director of Retail Operations, Cannabis Operations. “

The Campbell River location will be staffed by 16 employees.

The first BC Cannabis Store on Vancouver Island will open on the same day as new one in Cranbrook, B.C.  There are two other stores currently operating in Kamloops.

BC Cannabis also sells it’s products online.

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch says 15 government-run cannabis stores will be open across the province before the end of the year.
