Butchart Gardens is starting summer with a bang.
Firework shows are returning to Butchart Gardens in Brentwood Bay following a three-year absence, meaning spectators will soon be able to watch the illuminations Saturday evenings throughout July and August and in September.
The first of the 10 upcoming shows is scheduled for Canada Day, according to a release from Butchart, with the full schedule listed below:
- July 1: 10:15 p.m.
- July 8: 10 p.m.
- July 15: 10 p.m.
- July 22: 9:45 p.m.
- July 29: 9:45 p.m.
- Aug. 5: 9:30 p.m.
- Aug. 12: 9:15 p.m.
- Aug. 19: 9:15 p.m.
- Aug. 25: 9 p.m.
- Sept. 2: 8:45 p.m.
Visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the firework shows, which Butchart describes as “world-class” displays of “pyrotechnic magic” featuring aerial and ground arrangements, all choreographed to music.
Butchart says the shows are presented after weekly consultation with the Central Saanich Fire Department, meaning they could be cancelled due to extreme weather.
Firework Saturdays are included in regular admission.
The shows are a part of Butchart’s Summer Series of evening entertainment happening June 30 to Sept. 2, when the gardens will host 38 musical performances starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and on Saturdays three hours prior to fireworks.
The performance series kicks off with Daniel Cook & The Radiators, followed by Chris Millington Band and The Victoria Symphony, to name a few.
Meanwhile, Night Illuminations, described by Butchart as “a breathtaking wonderland,” kicked off June 1, runs until Sept. 15 and sees thousands of garden lights “give a soft magical glow” Wednesday through Saturday evenings.
Butchart Gardens is open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
