Fire crews responded to the Oak Bay Beach Hotel on Jan. 12, 2024.

Fire crews and police responded to a fire on the main floor of the Oak Bay Beach Hotel around 11 a.m. Friday, and it was quickly extinguished.

A CHEK News crew on scene says the hotel was evacuated but guests had been able to start returning around 12:40 p.m.

The hotel says the fire originated in the building’s Snug Pub area, and the fire was contained to the eatery.

It thanked the Victoria Golf Course and neighbourhing apartment buildings for keeping guests and staff members warm, amid Greater Victoria’s sub-zero temperatures, while fire crews wrapped up  the incident.

“We are truly fortunate to be part of such a caring and supportive community,” said the Oak Bay Beach Hotel in a social media post.

Fire crews from Oak Bay, Victoria and Saanich responded.

The hotel noted that the Snug Pub would remain closed for the remainder of Friday.
