Nanaimo Fire says there was a break-and-enter at a former senior’s facility that resulted in a fire Thursday afternoon.
Stu Kenning, assistant fire chief with Nanaimo Fire Rescue, says four engines responded to help extinguish the fire and search the building in the 1200 block of Nelson St.
“There’s smoke damage to about half the building,” Kenning said. “It is a large building, so it took quite a long time to search.”
Kenning says there were no injuries and no one was found in the building.
RCMP and fire investigators are en route to look into the fire.
Kenning says the building has been vacant for a couple of years.
