Finger-licking ribs and cold beer collide during fun weekend in Greater Victoria

WatchSome of the best brewers and ribbers in North America have descended on Greater Victoria for two major events expected to attract thousands of hungry and thirty islanders this weekend.

If you’re watching your waistline this may be the weekend to get out of Greater Victoria.

Beginning Friday, thousands are expected to attend two major events in the Capital Region both offering up something for stomach.

Here’s what you need to know about Esquimalt Ribfest and the Great Canadian Beer Festival.

Esquimalt Ribfest

Ribbers from across North America will be slathering up a variety of meats at Bullen Park beginning Friday at noon and running until Sunday evening.

The event is free to get in but donations to the Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Fund can be made at the entrance.

The event also includes local brewers, live entertainment, and a car show.

Great Canadian Beer Festival

The 27th edition of Canada’s oldest beer festival takes over Royal Athletic Park this weekend.

This will be the event’s largest year with 99 breweries from across Canada attending. This is the first year the event is being hosted by the Victoria Beer Society.

The event kicks off Friday at 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. as well as Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
