No one was hurt but a young family is without a home after a fire tore through a townhouse complex in Nanaimo Sunday night.

Nanaimo firefighters were called to Madrona Village on Pryde Avenue around 9:12 p.m.

Flames could be seen shooting from the second floor of the home when emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

A neighbour has told CHEK News a family of five lived in the suite.

They have been taken to a hotel by B.C. Emergency Services.

There is extensive damage to the home and Nanaimo fire investigators continue to look into what caused the blaze.
