Falling tree downs power lines, causes outages in Nanaimo

Firefighters and hydro crews were kept busy Sunday afternoon after a large tree fell on some power lines near the Brannen Lake RV Park and Campsite.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue Capt. Mike Rispin said a tree came down inside the Brannen Lake RV Park and Campsite property on Biggs Road in Nanaimo and took down power lines.

Rispin said the tree may have had rotten roots since it’s in a boggy area but that would have to be further investigated as the base of the tree was inside the campsite.

The power was out for 29 BC Hydro customers from 11:08 a.m. to 2:06 p.m.
