Ex-RCMP officer sentenced to six months house arrest for voyeurism in Nanaimo

WATCH: A long-serving RCMP officer has been sentenced to six months house arrest in Nanaimo after pleading guilty to voyeurism against his stepdaughter. He photographed her while she showered, against her knowledge, for over two years.

The crimes went on in the victim’s family home in Nanaimo from March 2016 to April 2018.

Court heard the young woman’s stepfather, who had served as an RCMP officer for decades, told her to leave the bathroom window open while she showered so steam would escape. Instead, he was really using the open window to photograph her naked body from outside.

The ex-RCMP was only caught after two years of voyeurism when his wife interrupted him viewing the nude images of her daughter and alerted RCMP. A publication ban prevents CHEK News from identifying the offender.

Calling it an “extreme breach of trust”, a judge sentenced the offender Monday to six months of house arrest and community service and ordered him to stay away from his victim.

The offender is no longer employed by the RCMP.
