More rain is on the way for parts of southern Vancouver Island.

Environment Canada is warning drivers about heavy rain on the Malahat Highway as an ‘atmospheric river’ is expected to bring 50 to 75 millimetres of rain to the area between Goldstream and Mill Bay, according to the weather agency.

They say driving conditions can change rapidly in the mountains and can cause hazardous driving conditions.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” said Environment Canada in the warning. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.”

The weather agency says the rain will begin to ease Monday morning as the system leaves the area.
