The end of the road for two bus services that cater to riders in Langford is fast approaching.

Both services will end on June 30th.

The municipality is pulling the plug on the Langtoria Greenline service that launched last Fall.

The bus featured free WiFi and coffee as it ferried commuters to and from Langford to Victoria,

But saw far fewer regular riders than needed to make it sustainable.

Langford Mayor Stewart Young said that the service had just 18 regular users.

He points out that it  was a pilot project and says he couldn’t justify the cost of keeping it running.

Langford is also ending a community trolley service that was launched back in 2007.

The 45-minute service stopped at major shopping and recreational areas in the area and fares were by donation.

Mayor Young says that, by his calculation, B.C. Transit service in Langford has increased by more than 70%.

It means the trolley, which was also due to be replaced,  was no longer needed.

Instead, it will be used for special occasions when people need to be ferried to events such as rugby matches at Westhills Stadium and PGA golf at Bear Mountain.

Young also says that to ease congestion to and from Langford during rush hour, he will be looking at options to widen existing roadways and the possibility of introducing High Occupancy Volume or car-sharing lanes.

The municipality is also on-board with ongoing efforts to establish a commuter rail service that would link the West Shore to Victoria.
