The emergency room at the Port Hardy Hospital will be closed for the majority of Sunday.

Island Health, in a media release issued this morning, said that Port Hardy Hospital’s emergency department will be closed from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday (July 17) due to staffing issues.

Anyone with issues can head to Port McNeill Hospital.

“Anyone experiencing a medical emergency should call 911 or, if possible, proceed to Port McNeill Hospital. Island Health and BC Emergency Health Services have protocols in place to ensure patients are transported to the appropriate site,” Island Health said in its media release.

Island Health has apologized for the closures, calling the entire ordeal “not an ideal situation for the community.”
