Emergency crews respond to bench fire near View Royal gas station

Emergency crews responded to an incident at a View Royal gas station on March 22, 2024.

A bench fire near a gas station in View Royal that drew a large response has now been extinguished.

Crews from multiple agencies responded to the fire on Friday morning.

A CHEK News reporter on scene notes there are West Shore RCMP, firefighters from View Royal, Langford and Colwood, BC Emergency Health Services, BC Hydro and FortisBC crews on scene.

A View Royal firefighter on scene says a bench was on fire, and there is now an investigation into whether it is a suspicious or accidental fire.

The bench was outside the laundromat in the gas station.

West Shore RCMP says the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The large response was due to the proximity to the gas station.

BC Hydro says their crews were on scene to assist in the event if it was needed.

FortisBC tells CHEK News its crews were on scene to assist the fire department with a propane tank and there was no risk of turning off natural gas services.

BC Emergency Health Services says two ambulances attended but no one needed to be transported to hospital.
