A small fire at Government House Saturday night has left the building’s elevator out of service.

Victoria fire crews responded after alarms were activated around 9:30 p.m. and arrived to an overheating elevator motor on top of the elevator car.

They were able to extinguish the small fire but the third-floor hoistway doors and elevator door motor were damaged.

Investigators suspect the cause was due to aging electrical equipment and estimate there was around $5,000 worth of damage.

No one was hurt and repairs will take place on Tuesday.
