The South Island Prosperity Project organized the Smart Mobility Expo. Vehicles from electric transit buses to high-tech garbage trucks to the latest in electric bicycles were on display. The event at Victoria’s Centennial Square was designed to showcase innovation in transportation technology. “Transportation is an economic issue, its a social issue and its an environment issue so there is a lot of new trend in technology and mobility that can be more sustainable. Electric is a good example. There are also a lot of ways we can use our bike shares or we have an electric ferry so there are a lot of ways we can think out of the box about how we get around the region,” Emilie de Rosenroll from theThe display was also part of the South Island Prosperity Project’s effort to win the Smart City Challenge. Greater Victoria could win a $10 million prize fro the federal government to put toward infrastructure, such as transportation.
