A woman behind the wheel of a truck was arrested this past weekend in a hit-and-run incident that saw her strike three people and flee the scene, according to Comox Valley RCMP.

On Saturday just before 10:40 p.m., police were called to Headquarters Road near the Comox Valley Exhibition grounds for a report that a driver had hit two cyclists and a pedestrian before driving away.

While on scene, police got a second call that a vehicle was driven into a ditch just a short distance away, near Bridges Road.

That’s when officers investigated and discovered that it was the same vehicle from the initial collision — a blue and white truck.

A 53-year-old woman walking away from the vehicle, who police allege showed signs of alcohol impairment, was subsequently arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

RCMP says other emergency responders, including fire crews and paramedics, also rendered aid to the victims, including one cyclist who was airlifted to hospital for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The other cyclist and pedestrian were treated at the scene and later released.

At this time, RCMP adds that a police investigation is ongoing. They’re asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to call the detachment at 250-338-1321.
