Police in Saanich are investigating after a motorist crashed their vehicle near Uptown Mall.
Saanich Police Department says they were called to the 3400-block of Blanshard Street, near Saanich Road, at around 7:30 p.m. on March 9 for reports of a single-vehicle crash.
When police arrived, they discovered Chevrolet Cobalt that had driven over the sidewalk and crashed.
Const. Markus Anastasiades, the department’s public information and communications officer, told CHEK News the driver was “inattentive and reaching for something inside their vehicle” shortly before the crash.
No injuries were reported and no tickets have been issued.
However, the department said the matter is still under investigation and the crash serves as a reminder that distracted driving has many forms.
It’s not just electronic devices which can lead to #DistractedDiving. Taking your eyes off the road for any reason can lead to inattention. This driver found themselves off the road after reaching for something inside the car. pic.twitter.com/ThiskZhP14
