A building and a truck are seen damaged following a collision in Fernwood on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022.

One driver was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening after crashing a truck into a residential building Wednesday morning, according to VicPD.

Police officers were called to the scene at 8:18 a.m. after the driver of a Ford pickup truck collided with the building located in the 1400-block of Johnson Street, near Fernwood Road, a VicPD spokesperson told CHEK News.

“It is still under investigation so I cannot provide many details,” the spokesperson said. It’s unclear if the driver was the truck’s lone occupant, if anyone else was injured in the crash, or what caused the driver to veer off the road.

A photo captured by a CHEK News reporter shows the truck’s front end badly damaged, with its bumper falling off and one headlight missing. The building’s exterior siding was also damaged in the crash.

Local fire crews also attended.

“The fire department has since cleared the scene and a structural assessment will be performed later today, approximately 1 p.m., to determine the extent of the damage,” Daniel Atkinson, deputy fire chief, told CHEK News around noon.
