Bus trips in the Campbell River transit system are being cancelled and a lack of drivers is to blame, according to BC Transit.

The transit corporation and the City of Campbell River on Tuesday say a labour shortage in the transit system is leading to service challenges, including last-minute trip cancellations.

According to BC Transit, Pacific Western (PW) Transit, which operates BC Transit buses, is working hard to hire more drivers. It says people with strong customer service skills who enjoy interacting with the public and supporting their community are encouraged to apply online here.

“While BC Transit works closely with the City of Campbell River to identify service level, fares and routing, service delivery is provided by PWTransit. The City of Campbell River does not control the services provided by PWTransit,” the corporation said in a notice.

Ride alerts for the Campbell River transit system are posted here, and BC Transit says riders can also use NextRide, the Transit app or Google Transit to get up-to-the-minute updates.

“BC Transit apologizes for the inconvenience this may cause and continues to appreciate the patience of customers during this time,” it added.
