One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries after they suffered a medical emergency and crashed a pickup truck into an apartment building in Langford over the weekend.

A police spokesperson says just after 11 a.m. Sunday, March 3, West Shore RCMP responded to a report that a pickup truck had crashed into an apartment building at 697 Hoylake Ave., just off Millstream Road in Langford.

There were two occupants inside the vehicle, and a preliminary investigation suggests the driver suffered a medical event, says RCMP in an update Monday.

“The passenger was uninjured while the driver was transported to hospital with serious injuries, though stable condition,” added RCMP Corp. Alex Bérubé in an email.

Fire crews and paramedics also responded to the scene.

A captain with the Langford Fire Rescue says the driver crashed into the building’s stairwell. They say no one inside the five-storey apartment building was injured.

“We responded, extricated the driver and assisted BC Ambulance. The patient (driver) was taken to hospital,” Matt Fisher with Langford Fire told CHEK News.

“The vehicle was through the side of the building and into the stairwell, so the vehicle wasn’t removed until the building was deemed structurally sound.”

Fisher says the vehicle was later removed around 2:30 p.m.

Last December, a similar incident happened just down the street.

On Dec. 9, 2023, two people suffered minor injuries after their vehicle crashed into the side of the Loghouse Pub, which is at the corner of Treanor Avenue and Millstream Road.

No one inside the pub was hurt.
