Driver crashes into building after stealing truck: Campbell River RCMP

A driver was arrested early Sunday morning after they allegedly stole a truck, hit a police car and crashed into a commercial building in Campbell River.

At around 5:40 a.m. on Sept. 29, Campbell River RCMP received a report of a truck being stolen from a driveway. The vehicle was located by police and officers stopped the vehicle. Police said the driver fled during the traffic stop and collided with a police car.

According to police, the driver continued a short distance before failing to navigate a left-hand turn and colliding into the side of the Pair-A-Dice building on South Dogwood Street. Police then took the driver, D’arcy Thompson, into custody.

Video taken by a witness shows the arrest.

Thompson remains in custody and is facing multiple charges, including theft of a vehicle and flight from police.

Police said there were no injuries in the incident and the building was not majorly damaged. Witnesses to the incident are asked to call Campbell River RCMP at (250) 286-6221.
