A 67-year-old man faces assault charges after a driver was allegedly attacked in road rage incident in Colwood.

West Shore RCMP say they were called to Creekview Lane near Latoria Road just before 1:15 p.m. on Monday following reports a man was being attacked.

Investigators believe the incident stemmed from an earlier encounter on the Veterans Memorial Parkway.

They say the 54-year-old victim was being closely followed by the suspect and, after a brief exchange while both men were still driving, the pair pulled over on Creekview Lane.

The 67-year-old is then alleged to have swung a baton at the victim, striking him several times.

Police say a physical fight then broke out between the two and both men suffered injuries.

“A bystander called the police immediately and began shouting at the suspect to stop the fight,” said RCMP Cst. Cst. Nancy Saggar.

“The bystander’s quick actions and shouting at the suspect definitely played a role in stopping the fight. We want to thank the brave bystander who even went a step further and offered the victim shelter in their own vehicle.”
