Driver allegedly running red light results in crash closing Trans-Canada on ramp: West Shore RCMP

The driver of a Ford F150 allegedly ran a red light in View Royal Monday morning, which led to a crash that closed the on ramp to the Trans-Canada Highway for 1.5 hours, according to the West Shore RCMP.

In a release, police say around 5:50 a.m. officers responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Old Island Hwy and Burnside Road West in View Royal.

On scene of the crash, officers learned the driver of the F150 allegedly ran a red light on Old Island Highway heading to the on ramp, and hit a Honda Civic that was turning left from Island Highway.

The driver of the Honda Civic was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the F150 was not injured, and was charged for driving without due care and attention. According to ICBC, this comes with a fine of $368 and six points on the driver’s license.

Both vehicles received severe front-end damage and the F150 ended up on top of the median cement barrier.

The southbound lanes going into Victoria were closed for around 1.5 hours while crews cleared the scene.

According to ICBC’s crash map, this intersection had 15 crashes between 2017 to 2021.
