
Starting on May 1, parking rates in downtown Victoria will increase and the duration paid parking is required will expand.
The changes were adopted 7-2 with councillors Chris Coleman and Marg Gardiner opposed.

The changes were initially brought in as part of the budget, with the increase in fares aiming to offset the property tax hike this year. Fares will increase by 50 cents per hour.

Money earned in the expanded hours has been earmarked to be used for beautification, maintenance, cultural opportunities, new parks and amenities and public safety in the downtown core.

Starting May 1, pay parking will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., an extension of one hour in the morning, and two in the evenings. This will be daily for on-street parking. Parkades will remain free on Sundays.
90-minute parking zones and two-hour zones will see a reduced rate on Sundays, and parking will be free on holidays in all paid parking areas.
