Shawnigan Lake Road at Sooke Lake Road open after downed tree and lines block road

Shawnigan Lake Road at Sooke Lake Road was closed Saturday for around two hours after power lines fell and blocked off the road.

Drive B.C. said the road was closed around 12:33 p.m. and reopened at around 3 p.m.

A detour was in place through Highway 1, B.C. Hydro said that 143 were without power in the area.

Strong winds are to blame for the outage, and even though crews are prioritising those still without power from the Dec. 20 storm emergency crews are still in place and are on the scene.

Power went out at 8:30 a.m. but was restored around 3 p.m.
