Tuesday December 3rd is the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

And in Victoria, a very special art show kicks off on that day at the Victoria Disability Resource Centre.

Victoria Disability Resource Centre (VDRC) is a grassroots, not-for-profit organization run by and for persons with disabilities.

The Centre works closely with people who have a disability and with other community organizations to find and remove barriers that prevent full participation in life.

“We have a lot of incredible resources here, to give them the opportunity to be more than they can, and to realize that they can do so much more in life,” says Les Chan, who is once again hosting the Centre’s Artists with Disabilities Showcase on December 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Comprised of submissions from over 24 regional artists, the 7th annual Showcase promises to be visually-stunning, tactile, interactive and musical.

The three-day Showcase, which is also a community awareness fundraiser, will be held at FLUX Media Gallery at 821 Fort Street, which is right next to the Victoria Disability Resource Centre.

The Centre will be open throughout the Showcase, and new this year, there will be live entertainment courtesy of Allison Piano, with performances by students from Neuromotion’s Music Therapy Program and the Victoria Brain Injury Society, as well as raffle prizes by donation from Dodd’s Furniture, Ballet Victoria and Sweet Delights.
