Nanaimo RCMP says two dogs seized by animal control after injuring three people they attacked Saturday have been euthanized.

Nanaimo RCMP says two dogs seized by animal control after injuring three people they attacked Saturday have been euthanized.

Police say two dogs that were off-leash and attacked three people in a south Nanaimo neighbourhood last weekend have been put down.

Nanaimo RCMP said the two pit bulls were seized by animal control and humanely euthanized.

The incident happened Saturday morning around 10 a.m.

WATCH: Pit bull attack near Nanaimo injures two children and one woman

A group of kids were in the front yard of a Cinnabar home when the unsupervised pit bulls ran into the yard and attacked the children.

One 10-year-old girl received deep bite wounds in her arm, and a witness said another child running for the road was pulled down to the ground and attacked.

Numerous neighbours tried to intervene and the dogs turned on one woman who needed multiple stitches to close the wounds on her arm.

Police and animal control attended and were able to locate the dogs and their owner.

The dogs’ owner Barbara Andrews admits the pit bulls had been ticketed for being at large the day before the incident, but she says the eight-month-old dogs had been good family pets.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to call RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
