Dino delivers, Royals topple Giants

CHEK

WATCH: Victoria Royals forward Dino Kambeitz had a night to remember against the Vancouver Giants on Saturday, scoring two goals, the second being the game-winning goal with just 11 seconds remaining in the third period.

The Royals couldn’t seem to solve Giants rookie netminder Trent Miner early on. Victoria outshot Vancouver 19-3 in the first period but still found themselves without a goal heading into the second.

Giants forward Ty Ronning opened the scoring early in the second, but shortly after, Kambeitz would streak down the left wing, beat the defender wide and tuck the puck past Miner to even the game at one apiece after two periods.

Early in the third, Royals captain Matt Phillips would shake off a defender behind the net and find Tyler Soy in front and he would score to give the Royals their first lead of the hockey game.

After the Giants tied things up once again, Soy would strike once more as he found the loose puck in the slot and fired home his 32nd goal of the season to give Victoria the lead. With just 36 seconds remaining in the game, Ronning would score his 53rd goal of the season off a great pass from James Malm to knot the game at three.

But the Royals wouldn’t wait until overtime to end the game. Ralph Jarratt makes a beautiful stretch pass to Kambeitz, and on the partial break he would beat Miner five-hole with just 11 seconds left to secure the win for Victoria.
