WATCH: Top New Zealand rowing coach Dick Tonks has joined Canada’s team as senior men’s head coach.

Rowing Canada hopes that Tonks, who guided Kiwi crews to over 30 Olympic and World Championship medals, will lead their high-performance team through to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Tonks has won the Halberg Awards’ coach of the year five times, in 1999, 2004, 2005, 2009 and 2012, which is more than any other coach in the award’s 27-year history.

The 66-year-old, who was appointed a member of the New Zealand of Merit in 2003 for his services to rowing, coached six New Zealand rowing boats to six Olympics gold medals.
