The City of Langford says it has removed signs warning people to stay away from the area around RidgeView Place after it received confidential information from the building owner.
RidgeView Place was evacuated on April 25, after information brought forward by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists brought into question the structural integrity of the building.
The association has not released the information it provided to the building owner, Centurion, or the City of Langford citing privacy issues. Additionally, Centurion nor Langford have released the initial issue.
In a statement, the City of Langford says it received preliminary information from Centurion Properties about the structural integrity of the building that resulted in the city deeming it appropriate to remove the signs telling people to stay away from the area.
However, the city says the information it received is confidential so it will not release the information publicly that led to this change.
After receiving a letter from the City of Langford about removing the signs around RidgeView, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Vancouver Island decided to return to its original location, which is beside RidgeView Place.
“After receiving a letter from the City of Langford noting that it was deemed appropriate to remove the limitations on public use of sidewalks and passageways in the immediate area, our Board of Directors and I made the decision to return to Claude Road,” Derek Pace, executive director of Society of St. Vincent de Paul Vancouver Island said in a news release.
The City of Langford says the decision to return was up to the society to make.
“With regards to St. Vincent de Paul returning to the Claude Road premises, the City recognizes the information deficit in respect of the building is an imperfect situation but the decision whether to return to the premises remained a decision for St. Vincent de Paul to make,” the statement from the city says.
