BC Ferries says one of its vessels is operating 85 minutes behind schedule to assist a boat in distress Thursday night.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., BC Ferries said on Twitter that the Queen of Alberni, servicing the Duke Point – Tsawwassen route, is assisting the Coast Guard.

Then just after 10 p.m., the corporation notified customers of the 85-minute delay.

A witness on the vessel Queen of Alberni emailed CHEK to say a BC Ferries rescue boat had been deployed.

The service on Queen of Alberni had already been delayed Thursday, with BC Ferries tweeting, “it took extra time to safely load as many vehicles as possible on each sailing & a stalled vehicle earlier in the day.”

More details to come as information comes available.
