Victoria Police says an outside agency is investigating one of its officers, who has been suspended.
Victoria Police confirmed the investigation Monday, adding the suspension is under the Police Act.
VicPD says in a statement, “In addition, we can also confirm that the matter has been referred to the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner,”
In a statement, the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner (OPCC) said it “was informed by senior members of the Victoria Police Department that a criminal investigation into one of their officers was underway.”
The OPCC says as a result of a request from VicPD and information it has received, a disciplinary conduct investigation under the Police Act has been ordered by the Police Complainant Commissioner.
“The OPCC does not conduct or oversee criminal investigations but will continue to monitor closely,” the statement said.
No charges have been laid and Victoria Police says, “out of respect for the integrity of the investigation,” there is no further comment at this time.
