Fire causes significant damage to Saanich church

Saanich Fire Department have knocked down a kitchen fire at a church on Wilkinson Road at Glyn Road.

They were called in around 7:40 p.m. after an usher at a bible meeting being held at the Cornerstone Pentecostal Church smelled smoke and raised the alarm.

There were approximately 30 people inside at the time, all managed to escape unharmed.

Saanich crews were able to knock down the fire quickly, but there is significant damage to the kitchen housed in a structure added on to the church

There is also some water and smoke damage to the church building itself.

The cause is under investigation.
