No one was injured, but a home was destroyed, following a structure fire near Sahtlam Saturday night.

The Sahtlam Fire Department was called to a house on Cowichan Lake Road around 9:00 p.m. and arrived to find the roof fully engulfed in flames.

The building belonged to a member of the department. She was able to escape the home with her adult son.

The blaze required more crews from Duncan and Lake Cowichan to assist, with water and additional personnel.

The roof collapse during the fire and firefighters stayed on the scene until Sunday morning.

An excavator had to be used to get to all the remaining hot-spots.

“It does hit close to home,” said Doug Wells, Deputy Chief of the Sahtlam Fire Department.

“She’s been [with us] for approximately ten years.”

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, it appears the blaze started in the attic area.
