The Capital Regional District is warning residents of potential bad smells coming from the McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant during maintenance next week.

The CRD plans on performing maintenance work at the Esquimalt wastewater treatment plant from Sept. 25 to 29.

“The maintenance work may generate intermittent odours near the facility, including areas immediately surrounding the plant and parts of Esquimalt during the scheduled maintenance,” said the CRD in a release Friday.

The regional district says it will have staff monitoring for odours and will try to minimize any impacts to the community, alongside facility contract works.

“We appreciate your patience while we complete this necessary maintenance,” said the CRD.
