COVID outbreak declared at Victoria General Hospital

Island Health has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at the Victoria General Hospital in two rooms of the general medicine unit on the fourth floor.

The health authority says in a statement that two patients have tested positive.

Once the first patient was identified as a positive case, Island Health implemented isolation, enhanced cleaning, and contact tracing precautions, then identified the second case through follow-up testing.

Only essential visitors will be allowed in these two rooms at this time.

The rest of the hospital is operating normally, only these two rooms are impacted.
