A COVID outbreak has been declared at the Victoria General Hospital after 11 health-care-acquired cases have been confirmed from one unit.
The outbreak has been declared in unit 6C, which according to a 2020 CRD Hospital District Board agenda is a General Medicine Unit.
There are 11 cases associated with the outbreak, and eight active cases on the unit at this time. All affected patients are experiencing a mild illness.
“It is important to note, the outbreak declaration is limited to this unit,” a statement by Island Health says. “No other areas of the site are affected by this outbreak, VGH remains a safe place to seek care, and people should not avoid seeking emergency care or attending appointments.”
The unit has implemented outbreak measures including enhancing cleaning and increased staffing, on-site and in-unit support from infection prevention and control experts, signs posted at the entrance to the unit, and communications to all staff about the outbreak.
