There is an outbreak of the novel coronavirus at a long-term care facility in the province’s capital.

Island Health on Sunday declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at the Victoria Chinatown Care Centre after two residents tested positive. All 31 residents, as well as staff, are currently being tested for the virus.

The health authority says the COVID-positive residents have been isolated to their rooms, and that all social visitation, admissions and transfers at the facility have been halted.

“Staffing levels and supply of personal protective equipment are being closely monitored and Island Health is supporting where needed, to ensure safe resident care continues,” the health authority said in a statement.

Victoria Chinatown Care Centre is located on Herald Street and is owned and operated by the Victoria Chinatown Care Society.
