COVID-19 outbreak that killed resident at Victoria long-term care home declared over

A coronavirus outbreak that killed one person at Mount. St Mary Hospital long-term care home in Victoria has been declared over.

The outbreak was first declared on April 21 after one staff member and one resident, each in separate houses, tested positive for COVID-19.

The resident who contracted the disease died as a result, Island Health said in a statement Tuesday.

There have been no further COVID-19 cases and the outbreak has since been declared over.

Island Health thanked the team at the care home for “exceptional work” in limiting the spread of the virus and continuing to provide care throughout the outbreak.

Now that the outbreak is over, social visits can resume at Mount St. Mary as well a new admissions and transfers.

Socially distanced dining will also resume with other COVID-19 safety outbreak protocols in place.
