Police in Central Saanich say they were called to several incidents at the Saanich Fair Grounds over the weekend, including a death that is now being investigated by the BC Coroner’s Service.

In a news release, police say they logged 28 police files overall on the long weekend, nine of which took place at the fair grounds on Stelly’s Cross Road between Sept. 4-6.

Among them was a call for a male in medical distress who later died. The BC Coroner’s Service confirmed it is now investigating the death.

Officers also responded to two assaults, which police called “isolated incidents.” One that took place Sunday at 8:45 p.m. involved a 17-year-old boy being assaulted by an unknown male on a carpet slide ride.

The next day police say a man in his late 30s was assaulted by another man at the fair.

Police say they’re still investigating and looking for witness information, video or images.

Officers were also called for a missing child who was found quickly with help from fair staff, a dog overheating inside a vehicle, which resulted in a warning for the owner, and a lost or stolen camera.

Anyone with information about any of these crimes is asked to call police at 250-652-4441 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
