A Nanaimo man suffered serious leg injuries Tuesday morning at a construction site in the city’s north end.

Police, fire and ambulance were dispatched at 10:30 a.m. to the corner of Kite Way and Falcon Drive, near Hammond Bay Road.

When first responders arrived they found the injured construction worker down a large hole where he had been helping install a water main pipe before slipping and falling.

Fire crews helped BC Ambulance medics carry him out of the hole on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

The assistant fire chief believes the man, who works for a contractor, may have suffered two broken legs.

The Regional District of Nanaimo construction project is slated to be finished in December.
