The McKenzie interchange project is complete, with speed zones returning to normal

Commuters in Greater Victoria might be able to get to work a little faster as the final piece of the McKenzie Interchange Project puzzle is now in place.

“The Highway 1 McKenzie Interchange project is now substantially complete,” the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure told CHEK News.

This is not the first time we’ve heard the ministry say this, but now, drivers will feel the full experience of the new McKenzie interchange.

As of Thursday morning at 7 a.m., the construction speed zone of 60 km/hour was removed, and the existing posted speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour took effect.

“The contractor is finishing a few final and minor works and will use the dry weather in spring to complete them,” said the ministry.

During these minor upgrades, the province says traffic control and designated lane closures will be used for the safety of the workers.

The greenspace work is also completed after the contractor finished planting 2,050 trees and shrubs.
