A long-time City of Courtenay employee is set to become the Comox Valley Regional District’s next chief financial officer.

The Comox Valley Regional District recently announced on its website that they have hired Jennifer Nelson as their new CFO. Nelson will be in charge of leading the regional district’s financial, accounting, insurance, procurement, asset management, and contracting functions.

“Ensuring effective financial planning and fiscal responsibility is a top priority for the CVRD. We are excited to have Jennifer part of our team. Our goal is to always deliver affordable top quality services to our residents,” Russell Dyson,  the regional district’s chief administrative officer, said in a press release posted on the CVRD’s website.

Nelson has been with the City of Courtenay since 2003, working her way up to her current position, director of financial services — a role she has held since 2018. She has a “deep background in financial planning and working with the public” and holds a CPA, CGA and is a member of the Government Financial Officers Association, the CVRD’s website notes.

Nelson will begin her new role on Jan. 4.
