The Comox Valley Regional District, City of Courtenay, Town of Comox and Village of Cumberland are encouraging to wear masks while visiting all open local government facilities, including recreation centres.

There may not be a requirement to wear masks in public, but local government governments in the Comox Valley are urging residents to wear them while at municipal-owned facilities.

The Comox Valley Regional District, City of Courtenay, Town of Comox and Village of Cumberland have issued a joint-notice stating residents will be encouraged to wear masks while visiting all open local government facilities, including recreation centres.

Individuals will be encouraged to wear them when entering and exiting all centres and in areas such as hallways and common areas.

“Residents will be encouraged to wear a mask in our facilities as an extra layer of protection. Every measure we put in place to protect our community helps to minimize COVID-19 transmission. We appreciate everyone’s respect and cooperation as we move into the coming weeks and months,” said Emergency Operations Centre spokesperson, Jesse Ketler, in a press release on the Village of Cumberland’s website.

However, individuals will not be required to wear masks while participating in physical activities on ice, in the water or pool, at the fitness centre or during other physical activities.
