A helicopter from 442 squadron in Comox has been sent to medivac two injured crew, onboard a container ship adrift near the B.C. coast.

The vessel is the Singapore-flagged container ship MOL Prestige.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says they believe an engine fire disabled the ship, injuring five people onboard.

The Canadian Coast Guard Ship Sir Wilfrid Laurier is en route and should arrive around midnight to also assist.

A tug is coming from Neah Bay in Washington State,  and will bring the ship back to a port.

As the vessel is very far out, JRCC does not believe it will run aground.
