The City of Colwood has regained its title as the “bloomingest community” in the CRD in this year’s Victoria Flower Count.
There were 9,637,776,463 flowers counted in Colwood this year.
In the region, a total of 27,875,292,158 flowers were counted, which is lower than the 2021 total of 65,245,471,605.
Colwood previously had a five-year winning streak, which ended in 2019 when Victoria took home the title.
Ms. Ashley Close’s class at Prospect Lake Elementary School in Saanich counted the most flowers of the participating elementary schools. Her class counted 2.51 billion blossoms.
Last year, Highlands won with 30,000,010,397 flowers counted.
This year, the runner-up was Saanich with 9,250,486,250 blooms.
A previous version of this story identified a winning elementary class for the flower count that was provided by Destination Greater Victoria. The incorrect name was provided, and the actual winning class’s name has now been added to the story.
